NAD+

What is NAD+?

NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a helper molecule that assists in various cellular processes. It is involved in energy production, cellular signaling, and numerous other functions that are essential for maintaining cellular health and longevity.   NAD+ has far-reaching effects on health and aging. Its decline with age contributes to various ailments, making it an important target for promoting healthy aging and treating age-related diseases.

What are the main benefits of NAD+ supplementation?

  • Cellular Signaling: NAD+ is involved in sending signals within cells to regulate activities like cell growth and stress responses.

  • Boosts Energy Levels: NAD+ helps convert food into energy, which can improve overall vitality and reduce feelings of fatigue.

  • Supports DNA Repair: NAD+ plays a role in repairing damaged DNA, which is crucial for maintaining healthy cells and preventing age-related diseases.

  • Enhances Cognitive Function: Some studies suggest that NAD+ supplementation may improve brain function and protect against neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's.

  • Reduces Inflammation: NAD+ can help reduce chronic inflammation, which is linked to various chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

  • Promotes Healthy Aging: By supporting cellular repair and energy production, NAD+ supplements may help slow down the aging process and improve overall health such as cognitive decline, metabolic disorders, sarcopenia (we have a blog about this), and frailty.

How is NAD+ best taken?

While there are many NAD+ products available, they are not effectively absorbed when ingested. This leaves two primary methods for supplementing NAD+: taking precursor compounds that our bodies can convert into NAD+, or using NAD+ supplementation that bypasses the gastrointestinal tract. These methods include:

  • IV supplementation: This method is very expensive.
  • Subcutaneous injections: Injections into the fat on the quads or stomach.
  • Sublingual lozenges: NAD+ rapidly absorbs into the bloodstream by dissolving under the tongue, bypassing the stomach.

We recommend the subcutaneous and sublingual methods as they are reliable, convenient, and affordable ways to supplement NAD+.
